If history is any indication of what’s to come, this summer is going to be a scorcher again. In fact, we’ve already gotten a sneak peak of that in recent days and we’re still in springtime. For SoCal, the humidity is going to be the cherry on top that pushes the temperature to unbearable heights. Though there’s not much we can do to mitigate the rising mercury, there are new fashion trends here to help us deal with our predicament. One of my most excited solutions to try this season is the cold-shoulder tops.
Unlike its off-the-shoulder cousin, a well-designed cold shoulder style minimizes the broadness of the shoulder and reduces the thickness of the upper arms, the source of self-consciousness for many women. This peek-a-boo detail not only offers a reprieve from the heat, it also adds a sense of fun and flirtation to any outfit. I also prefer this style to the off-the-shoulder silhouette for its added security since there is generally some type of strap that prevents the top from slipping.
So, if you’re looking to update your wardrobe and try something new, look for this style. I promise it won’t hurt to try. One more thing, remember to apply sunscreen to the exposed shoulder area if you do end up taking one out for a spin.
